A Message To Our Community

To our community,

Racism has no place in our country. We are outraged by the inexcusable death of George Floyd, deeply concerned about the inequality we continue to witness, and more determined than ever to foster acceptance, understanding, and respect in our community and beyond.

While we appreciate the Y’s existing programs that encourage social justice, fight hate of all forms, and celebrate diversity, I will continue to challenge us to do more and to be a beacon of hope and equality.

As a Jewish Community Center with more than 100 years of welcoming immigrants, introducing culturally diverse neighbors to one another, and helping people of all backgrounds pursue a better life, we know that when we come together we can accomplish great things and make a profound positive difference.

Now is the time for our entire community to stand together in solidarity with people of color to speak out against hatred. Together, we can advocate and raise our collective voice to bring about fundamental changes and to strive for a more fair, just, and inclusive society for everyone.

We will continue to speak out against racism and injustice of all forms, provide communitywide programs that bring people together, and remain firmly dedicated to creating a better tomorrow for all.

Lastly, my heart goes out to those in our own community who have been feeling overwhelmed by grief or apprehension because of fear for their own safety, families, and loved ones.

Sincerely,
Martin G. Englisher
