Addressing Mental Health Challenges In Our Community

Throughout the pandemic, the Y addressed the unique consequences brought on during this especially trying time — particularly diverse mental health challenges, including anxiety, depressie, suicidal ideation, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other trauma- and stress-related conditions.

As we wrap up Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to thank you for assisting the Y to care for the wellbeing of our community by helping to provide mental health resources to listen, care, comfort, normalize, educate, and save lives.

You helped us provide support to a victim of domestic abuse, to a grieving single mother who lost her only daughter to cancer, to a devastated young adult facing loss of her mother to ALS, to a teen considering ending her life, to a Holocaust survivor who lost his wife to COVID-19, to homebound World War II veterans suffering from isolation, and many more.

While we will continue to learn about the longterm impact of the pandemic, one thing is clear: our community will continue to need our help. Your support can help us provide critical mental health services to people in need — from young students to those nearing life’s end.

According to a recent survey in Clinical Psychiatry News, the mental health impact of COVID-19 showed high rates of trauma and clinic mood disorders. The effects on mental health caused by the pandemic will be long-lasting, and the Y will continue to examine what this means for our community and to set priorities to address the challenges.

The pandemic devastated our community in many ways. We cried. We listened. We were relieved when a life was saved. We acted. We referred. Maar, we also celebrated the resilience and growth of our community, and took comfort in knowing we played a helpful role.

Please join us in our mission to be a source of strength and hope for our community and make a donation today.
