Martin Englisher

Chief Executive Officer

Martin G. Englisher has served as CEO of the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood (the Y) since 1981. His visionary leadership has been a positive force for the Y and the community, as he encouraged the development of vital programming to serve the needs of our diverse and evolving neighborhood.

Under his leadership, the Y developed outstanding services at our flagship location at 54 Nagle Avenue and multiple locations in Manhattan — focusing on a wide range of services for neighborhood families, youth programs, accessible social services in three languages, and a housing facility for seniors, the Wien House.

Marty has been considered an esteemed positive force for the community by local leaders for decades. He also is a valued resource for the New York Police Department and is actively involved with our local precinct, citywide initiatives, and Cadet Corps. He provides training and guidance to law enforcement and has mentored hundreds of NYPD officers throughout their careers, some of whom are commanding officers today.

Recognized for his significant impact on the community, Marty received the NYC Small Business Services Award for Leadership. He is a renowned mentor and coach for new CEOs. An adjunct lecturer at Columbia School of Social Work, he also frequently speaks at local and national conferences.

Marty’s passion for our community began when he was growing up — down the block from the Y!
