The Y was established in 1917 and has been a pillar of the Washington Heights and Inwood communities ever since. It offers multi-generational support, including nursery school, after-school programming, and senior services. The Workforce Development Center, launched in September 2024, serves individuals ages 18 and older, providing free certificate training, career readiness programs, and employment referrals for community members.
The YM & YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood, along with partner Lehman College, is offering free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training beginning Spring 2026.
– CNA classes are scheduled to begin in February 2026
– The CNA course is English only and will not provide ESOL English language support
– Those eligible are 18 + years old with a high school diploma/GED
– Interested in healthcare/Committed to working as a CNA
– Classes are hybrid, with evening and Saturday schedule
– Loaner laptops and MetroCard assistance are available
