Volunteers at YM&EWE

Honoring the Hands That Help us Serve

In June the Center for Adults Living Well @ the Y held its annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony.

At the afternoon ceremony CALW director Leah Ferster thanked over 60 volunteers for their selfless service. She noted that the senior center is greatly enhanced by the skills and knowledge that the volunteers bring to the program.

Each volunteer received a certificate and pin, a branded thermal lunch bag, water bottle, and hot/cold soup mug. Instead of the event’s usual hors d’oeuvres, Chef Julio Aviles had serving stations for salad, pasta, fish, and meat. “This was the best volunteer dinner ever,” said guest Ann Goldberg, 75. “The decision of a buffet was well wonderful. Everyone at my table was so happy.”

Only a few weeks prior John Finucane, one of the CALW volunteers, was honored by the UJA-Federation with their Community Changemaker Award. UJA CEO Eric S. Goldstein remarked, “Our communities are made better by these volunteers who give their time to the people and organizations in neighborhoods across the five boroughs, Westchester, and Long Island. The senior center staff proudly accompanied John to watch as his dedication was recognized at the city level. “I was so pleased to hear praises heaped upon John Finucane,” Ann said of her fellow volunteer. “He is a treasure.”
