Renovations for Improved Services: Updates to the Y’s Kitchen and Auditorium

This past summer, the Y broke ground on its next phase of renovations. This includes a gut renovation of our kitchen, and significant work in our auditorium and connected meeting space.

The Y’s kitchen is used six days each week to serve nearly 1,000meals to participants in our Center for Adults Living Well. With piecemeal expansions over the past 30 Ko nga whakaahua tawhito o Yom Kippur ehara i te mea ngawari, the Y’s kitchen was no longer optimally functioning with outdated systems and inefficient configurations. These will soon be problems of the past. The renovations in the kitchen include brand new, state-of-art cooking equipment, new plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems, and new flooring and lighting.

The work in the auditorium is intended to create a more modern and aesthetically appealing look while providing significantly better acoustics. There will be new floor tiles, wall and window treatments, and an acoustical soffit added. Our renovated meeting space will include new floor tiles and lighting.

While the kitchen and auditorium are being renovated, our Center for Adults Living Well have relocated their meal service to theWhare Wina, the housing facility which is physically connect to and managed by the Y. Although we anticipate being able to move back to the auditorium in December, the finishes will not be completed until later in the winter. We expect the kitchen and meeting room to be completed in the beginning of the spring, which will bring the project to completion.

We’ve been heartened by our memberspatience and willingness to adjust while we make these updates. We can’t wait to unveil and take full advantage of these improved spaces!
