Iyo Y Kitchen Yadzoka muBhizinesi

Kuitira kuzadzisa zvinodiwa nevatengi vedu, gore rakapera Y yakatanga kugadziridza pakicheni yedu nehoro yedu. Kuti vose vafare, that work is now complete and representatives from the Mayor’s Office, the Department for the Aging, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Jewish Communal Fund, and UJA-Federation of New York joined us to celebrate.

Last year the Y began it’s latest phase of renovations by gut renovating the kitchen, and significantly updating the auditorium and adjacent meeting space. As of this week, these improvements are 100% complete and back in use. Department for the Aging Commissioner Donna Corrado, Deputy Mayor Richard Buery, and Dr. Ali Hamade, Assistant Commissioner for the Bureau of Environmental Disease and Injury Prevention, joined us in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Center for Adults Living Well at the Y is particularly pleased with the completion. The Center serves nearly 1,000 meals a week and with the kitchen out of service during the renovation, we relied on catering for most of the past year. With the gas being turned on this past weekend, the Center’s meal service is now fully operational again and is in a better position than ever to offer this much needed service to the community.

The Center isn’t the only group at the Y benefitting from the completed kitchen. This spring the Department of Education awarded the Y a full-day Pre-K for All contract, allowing the Y Nursery School to offer four-year-olds tuition-free enrollment. As part of that contract, the Y provides lunch to these classes, which makes our kitchen busier than ever!

Our deepest thanks to the City of New York, Jewish Communal Fund, and UJA-Federation of New York for making this project possible!
